Before you dive into the world of microblading, evaluate if you are a candidate for this procedure. If you have any of the points listed below, microblading alone may not be the best cosmetic procedure for you. Though still possible, results will not last as long and the crispy detailed strokes may fade quicker than other skin types. If you love this process and are a candidate upon consult, please keep in mind additional sessions or touch ups may be required for you to achieve or maintain desired results. Results are not guaranteed. A combination brow may be your best option!

HELPFUL TIPS FOR APPOINTMENT PREPARATION
Refrain from consuming alcohol or taking any blood thinners (aspirin) at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Any major facial treatments should be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your procedure. These treatments include: Lasering, peels, facials, waxing, plucking, botox and so on. Any questions please contact me prior.
If you use topicals in your skin care routine such as: Vitamin C serum, Retinoid, straight exfoliants, glycolics etc. please stop use at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
Your skin should be in clean and healthly condition for the procedure to be performed. Skin should also be sunburn and rash free. If you are experiencing any major breakouts or changes in skin notify us prior to your appointment.
Limit caffeine intake the day of your appointment. Zero caffeine is encourage.
HEALING & MAINTENANCE
WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE HEALING
Right after the initial procedure, your brows will appear to be dark, very crip and bold. This is because the pigment is visible and not under the film of your natural skin hue yet. If you’ve read up on the process you will know this first period of darkening color can last up to 5-7 days. The brows tend to get darker the first few days, then drop color vibrancy as the skin recovers over the area. The pigment then settles in and color returns exactly as desired. The area may feel a little sharp or tender afterwards but this is a procedure and some discomfort is to be expected. There should be only minimal discomfort and it should last only a day or two.
During the healing process, similar to traditional tattooing there may be flaking, scabbing or a peel starting on the skin. If that occurs it’s vital you do not pick it! This could cause damage to the area and affect your color and final heal. Allow any scab, dry pigment or skin to come off naturally on it’s own. It is a normal part of the healing process for the skin to go through these steps.
The complete healing process can take up to 30 days or more for the pigment to fully settle into the skin and finally show it’s true color. That's why we recommend a 6-8 week scheduling period between your initial and second appointment. During the first 10 days all the way to the 30th your brows will go through stages such as darkening, lightening and softening in nature. Once your body heals itself the pigment will retain its desired hue with a proper heal. The skin in the brow area regenerates and naturally sheds as needed to recover.
WHAT NOT TO DO
DO NOT get your brows wet! You may shower or bathe normally, but avoid getting any products or water on your brows during healing process.
NO direct or general sun exposure, tanning, swimming pools, jacuzzis, saunas or other types of recreational water for at least two weeks.
NO exercising or excessive sweating one day prior your appointment and for total of 10 days after.
NO anti-aging products with Alpha Hydroxy's, Retin-A, or Glycolic Acids.
DO NOT bleach, tint or dye the brow or procedure area for one month following the procedure.
DO NOT apply makeup or sunscreen to the area for the first 10 days.
DO NOT get any facials or laser procedures during healing process.
DO NOT wax, pluck, thread or use hair removal products while healing.
DO NOT pick! Let the skin fall off naturally.
DO NOT use any petroleum based products while healing.
MY BROWS ARE HEALED! HOW DO I MAINTAIN THEM?
When brows are totally healed wearing sunscreen over the brows is encouraged. Proper skin maintenance is crucial for the longevity of the pigment retention.
Limit any contact with chlorine. If you are in the pool make sure to wash face and brow area after, even when healed.
As mentioned before skin products and treatments such as regular use of Glycolics, facial peels, and lasering of any kind can effect and lighten the pigment and area over time. Keep this in mind as you acclimate to your skin care routine. Make tweaks and avoid the direct area.
You must always let your medical doctor or laser technician know that you have had the procedure before they perform on or around your face. MRIs could be affected and any laser treatments could lead to discoloration of the area if they’re not notified.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NEW COSMETIC PROCEDURE?
The human body is amazing and the less you do, the better. The most important thing you can do to heal your new brows is to keep them dry. For microblading we recommend a dry heal method as the pigment heals from the dermis up which is the opposite of a traditional tattoo heal. The dry healing method insures the most pigment retention, aids in keeping the lines crisp and the pigment in place. Keeping your brows as dry as possible for a period of 10 days yields great results. Every body recovers at their own pace some slower (older skin, immune challenges) some faster (younger skin, high immune, good maintenance).
If there is one thing to be obsessed about with your brows it’s the aftercare! Like anything in life, what you put in is what you get out of the experience. If you commit to the 10 day dry heal period you will have long lasting, crisp brows! Remember, this is an investment in yourself and healing is a crucial component of perfect brows. Making plans in advance such as, not working out, no extreme activities, no saunas or swimming will help with your 10 day healing plan. It’s easier than you think and yes, you can still shower and wash your face.
During our appointment, Jenna will go over the full aftercare routine and allow time for questions and advice. After both your initial appointment and second appointment, I will provide you with an aftercare packet with all the items needed to clean and maintain your brows during the healing process.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY COSMETIC PROCEDURE TO HEAL?
You will be provided with a step-by-step 10 day healing plan. If you follow the steps exactly as given, at day 10 you may resume washing your face as normal, including your brows.
APPOINTMENTS AND CONSULTATIONS
HOW DO I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT?
All inquiries are made through a consultation application on the website under Jenna. If her books are open you'll see a link for a "consultation inquiry". The remote option is conducted via email and is only available for clients who are 2 or more hours away. In-person consults are preferred as they produce the best possible result efficiently and effectively. After your consult, Jenna will decide if your desired procedure is this right fit for you.
Please be as thorough as possible. For both types of consultation submissions you MUST include a head on, well lit, current photo of your face and brows. (full & up close face if inquiring about freckles) These can be with and without makeup but be sure to absolutely include one without anything on your face or brows. Feel free to include reference images of inspiration for the shape and colors you'd like to achieve.
Once your brows and skin have been evaluated, you will be contacted by email with instructions on scheduling your consultation.
If Jenna's books are closed please keep your eyes peeled on Instagram for an announcement that her books have opened or for spaces that have freed up.
If you are an existing client needing to schedule a 'Refresher Appointment', send an email directly to Jenna including a current photo of your brows or freckles. This photo needs to be well lit, head on, and a clear shot to help determine touch up requirements and time needed to get your look refreshed! We will then reach out to you and get your refresher appointment scheduled.
WHAT DOES ‘APPOINTMENT ONLY’ MEAN?
Due to the customized process of each individual set of brows or freckles, you must first have a consultation and then we book your appointment. A major portion of these procedures are the consultations and drawn on elements to make each set uniquely yours! This process is best achieved by appointment only.
CAN I JUST WALK IN/CALL TO TALK TO JENNA AND SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION/APPOINTMENT?
By all means come in and see our space, we love visitors! All artists have a heavy workload and their time is scheduled accordingly to accommodate each client and focus on their experience. Jenna books her clients in cycles that are announced on social media and the website. Walk-in consults would interrupt our response to online inquiries which are on a first-come, first-served basis. Your best bet would be to book directly online, please and thank you.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY CONSULTATION?
You and Jenna will discuss your chosen procedure in detail. The consultation will focus around skin evaluations and the client’s expectations. During the consultation we will determine if you and your skin are a candidate for the procedure you are requesting. Once determined we will discuss the fun stuff like the shape, color, and style. Please come prepared with any reference photos along with your desired shape and color.
The consultation will also allow time for questions to be answered and to go over the overall procedure process. A consultation will not guarantee the artist will take on your project as a major goal in said consultation is determining if you are a candidate. If what you are looking to for isn’t a perfect fit, I may refer you to another artist. When we both agree to move forward with your procedure, a minimum deposit of $100 is made and your appointment(s) are scheduled.
MY APPOINTMENT IS COMING UP, WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE BROWS YOU DREW FOR ME?
Each set of brows is sketched multiple times before the first appointment to ensure Jenna is designing the perfect set for you. This helps anticipate and achieve the shape requested. During the procedure the brows are drawn directly onto your face and you will be able to approve and tweak shape before the procedure is started.
I DON'T LIVE NEAR PORTLAND, MAINE… CAN I STILL COME TO BRASS & BRIAR STUDIOS?
In person consultations are strongly preferred for first time cosmetic clients. However, Jenna does offer remote consults under special circumstances. For new clients who are unable to make the trip, the remote consultation option of direct email is available. You must provide a well lit, clear, head on, current photo. If you are far away, please choose the 'Remote Consultation' option on the 'Consultation Inquiry' form on my artist page and we will get the process in motion.
DEPOSIT POLICY, PRICING & FORMS OF PAYMENT
WHAT IS YOUR DEPOSIT POLICY?
Deposits are payments made to secure your appointment time. They are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
A $100 cash deposit is required to hold an appointment spot. Please come prepared to pay deposit at your consultation. Remote clients are required to pay the same $100 non refundable deposit as directed per email.
In regards to cancelling or rescheduling an appointment, we prefer a week but require at least 48 hours notice. If you fail to give 48 hours notice, your deposit is forfeited and another deposit is required to schedule another appointment. We know emergency circumstances do apply so please call us as soon as you know you will be late or won’t be able to make your scheduled appointment. If you have rescheduled your appointment twice in a row, your deposit will be forfeited and another deposit is required to book an appointment.
HOW MUCH WILL MY PROCEDURE COST?
The cost varies on the procedure you are selecting. Each procedure is priced with specific payment breakdowns per appointment. These procedures include initial appointments (consisting of two mandatory sessions), yearly refresher appointments, freckles and beauty marks.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
Cash is preferred but I also accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Venmo and PayPal. Checks are not accepted.
WHAT IS YOUR LATE POLICY?
Please arrive 15 mins before your appointment. Arriving 15 minuets or later without notice will result in moving/re booking your appointment, especially if you are the first appointment of the day.
A one time courtesy of rescheduling is allowed per client in the event of an emergency with a 48 hour notice. Courtesy re booking will occur and original deposit will be applied to new spot. Any additional rescheduling of your appointment there after will require additional non-refundable deposit.
DOES IT HURT?
Yes. Although semi permanent it is still a procedure so some pain is to be expected. Each person has a unique level of pain tolerance but I use two types of topical numbing agents to ease pain and help the process be as minimally painful as possible.
CAN I GET BROWS/FRECKLES ETC IF I AM UNDER 18?
No. Even with a parent or guardian’s approval/presence, this procedure will not be performed on minors in accordance with state law.
WHERE CAN I PARK DURING MY APPOINTMENT?
Parking is available all around the studio with many options open to you. If you have an appointment 2 hours or more we suggest parking at Holiday Inn By The Bay which offers hourly parking with a $15 maximum charge. As most cosmetic procedures are 2 hours or more so please plan accordingly. If you're coming for a consultation or your appointment is less than 2 hours there is ample metered parking on and around Spring Street Monday-Saturday between 9am and 6pm. After 6pm and Sundays are free! We would be happy to have our manager Caitlin run out to a meter for you while in session so no work is disturbed, but to guarentee no Parking tickets we suggest the Holiday Inn option for those longer appointments.
WHERE CAN I STAY WHILE IN PORTLAND IF I’M TRAVELING TO SEE YOU?
The Holiday Inn By The Bay and the Westin are the closest hotels to the shop. The Portland Regency is also highly recommended with a great basement lounge. Finally, AirBnB always offers great deals and provides an authentic Portland experience.
CAN I BRING A GUEST?
Absolutely, we love guests who are respectful of our shop & space. A maximum of one guest in the room with you at a time. All other guests may wait in our lounge, switch out with other guest, or explore the beautiful city of Portland!
Cosmetic tattooing is an exact procedure being performed on your face. This leaves little room for movement or chatting during tattoo so your guest should be comfortable relaxing and letting the experience go without any distraction. Please have guests be mindful of volume as well as with in and out traffic.
MAY I BRING MY KID WITH ME FOR THE APPOINTMENT/CONSULTATION?
Unfortunately, no. There is no one under the age of 18 allowed in the studio.
